An authentic African Mask Chokew People of Angola. It is made of carved wood and woven grease fabric. Circa early 1900's. I believe it is called the Mukanda men’s initiation mask. Legend has it that the mask represents a woman but worn primarily by men in male circumcision rights. The scarification mark on the forehead is called a cingelyengelye. It has a very nice built up patina on the wood carving. Take a good look and you will see all of the facial features with superior distinct details. Condition: exceptionally fine condition and shows tremendous signs or skill, great craftsmanship and artistry. Good signs of age – completely hand made. Measurements: 11 ½” at highest x 6 ½” at widest x 10 ½” at deepest (overall).
