Exquisitely carved ivory writing set comprised of a per, a sceau (or wax seal), a letter opener and two ivory knopped containers for nibs. The pen and sceau are tipped with sterling silver ends. The sterling hule de sanglier, or French sterling silver standard for small items is clearly marked. There is a maker's mark, partially rubbed, that I can't make out. All of the ivory pieces are gracefully carved and absolutely perfect! No flaws to be found on these pieces. There is a matching monogram on the sceau, pen and letter opener. Per usual, I am blasted awful at decoding these monograms. Best guess is LC in script. The box is lined with the original velvet and silk. The latch is in good condition, as are the hinges. One of the silk ribbon attachments is torn. Dimensions: The box is 10 1/4" by 4" by 1". The letter opened a generous 9 3/4" by 1 1/8". The pen without the nib is 7", the sceau is 3 1/4" by 1". |
