The Amaranth or Token of Remembrance a Christmas and New Year’s gift for MDCCCXLVII Boston: Phillips & Sampson 1847. The Amaranth is a collection of short stories and poems with 7 tissue guarded engraved plates one of which is a frontispiece. The binding is breathtaking in a deep vivid red hard bound leather with elaborate gold gilt decor consisting of florals and angles – very arabesque.  The spine is also quite elaborate in highly detailed gold gilt florals and scrolls with the title in gold gilt as well.   All of the page edges are gold gilt.  There is some sunning to the spine along with some shelf wear to the corners, head and tail of the spine.  There is also some slight scuffing to the back and front cover but it isn’t unsightly in the least.  This is a very handsome and sophisticated cover that demands attention when you first lay eyes on it.  The binding is tight with some slight foxing to the pages especially on the tissue guards.  The book is 12mo (7 1/8”h) with approx 324 pages.Striving For ExcellenceIt isn’t brilliance or just getting the breaks,It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer.
