Micro Mosaic Box Silver Hinged Box Roman Coliseum

A Rare 19th century micro mosaic box with a scene of the Roman Coliseum set into a marble roundle. The box has fine silver deeply chased long legged birds feeding while standing in the marshes. The interior is a paper lining and the the top of lid with a crown in high relief. On the bottom of the box is a fabric liner with what appears to be the embossed insignia of Rome .The box is quite heavy & measures 2 ½” diameter x 1” high. In excellent condition; only one tesserae missing and the hinge is sound. Dating from the late 1800’s to the very early 1900’s.
