Looks to be an Officer wearing a blue coat with gold edged red collar and gold button trim. Also a lace cravat. His hair is powdered .Very realistic looking face. Joseph Daniel painted from 1760 to his death in 1803. His elder brother Abraham was also a successful Miniature painter of the time. They both received their education for their mother. Joseph painted in Bath, Bristol and London. He exhibited at the RA at 17 New Bond Street. Provenance of this piece claims...this piece was exhibited there. His Military portraits have sold for excess of $8000. His pieces are never signed. I guarantee this piece to be painted by Joseph Daniel. In wonderful condition with no chips or cracks . Due to construction, I have not removed portrait from the frame. The paint is as strong as the day is was painted over 225 years ago. Due to weak dollar and the Miniature Art Market, prices are escalating. |
