1790 French Miniature Portrait Ivory Revolution Citizen By C. Noel

Portrait is approx. 2 1/2 by 3 inches and framed in a Boulle style frame edged with ivory veneer which is approx. 4 3/4 by 5 1/2 inches.

The detailing is amazing. Older gentleman with a tri corn hat hat and pointing a finger into the air.

His face is so realistic. Pointed nose and chin and lines with the years. His hands are a masterpiece with the wrinkles and the look as they had been at hard use over the years. So unlike most of the glamour portraits of this time. Grizzled white hair and wearing an open chemise with vest and over coat. Signed C. Noel to the far right.

Color is strong but there are 2 cracks. One at the very top and another at the far left by the signature. None of the painting is affected. His miniatures rarely come up for sale and when they do are in the thousands. I am offering this at a price affected by the damage.
