1790 Gold Ivory Hair Miniature In Memory Of Painting

Superb 18th C In Memorium Miniature painting with Hair Art.Approx. 1 by 1 1/4 inches and framed in a ct. gold locket 2 sided with hair art design under glaze on the back.

I am not sure if it American or English. The subject is much rarer that the usual woman weeping over a tomb.

This is a large and beautifully decorated urn on a beach with an overhead weeping willow tree. The tree and the sand are comprised of shredded hair. Blue ocean and sky studded with clouds and in the distance masted ships. Allegorically is the tale of a deceased Sailor or a shipwreck. Painted on ivory

Rare piece in wonderful condition with strong colors. Quite beautifully painted and displayed.
