1830 American Miniature Portrait Ivory Gentleman

Portrait is approx. 2 1/4 by 2 3/4 inches. The artist used the paper surrounding the portrait as a palette where he displays the colors he used. Further, the back of the paper is a wonderful pencil drawing of the sitter. Quite a rare and wonderful combination.

Sitter is quite realistically painted, Wonderful face, blue eyes, small nose and chin. His light brown hair lays across his forehead. Wearing a brass buttoned double breasted jacket with white shirt and black tie. Medium gray matte background. In wonderful condition with very strong colors and no chips or cracks to the ivory.

Framed in an interesting Art Nouveau frame . Approx. 3 by 4 inches. Copper or bronze front panel with iris flowers and leaves,. quite striking though not original to portrait
