18th C French Vernis Martin Billet Doux Message Etui

Sweet 18th C French Vernis Marin Billet Doux, a holder or carrier of a love letter. Approx. 5 inches tall and 3/4 inches in diameter. Wood with lacquer and the sweetest paintings of cherubs in flight. Dark red coloring with gold angels in gilt. Interior is gilt metal. Unfortunately some craquelure and cracking to the surface, though piece is quite solid.

Very rare to find the cherubs on such a piece.
