An Italian 1710 - 30 silk and silver metal brocaded lampas cover with symmetrical patterns of flower and leaves on a blue/green silk ground. Patterns such as these were typically nicknamed “ lace patterns” for they generally included areas of small scale “diaper ornament” that were creamy white in color and formed of bands and ribbons reminiscent of lace trimmings. Edged in a two-toned gold metal torchon lace and fully lined in beige silk.
Condition: Made from two large pieces beautifully matched, ever so slight wear to a few areas of the cream silk areas, and a few spots. I haven’t had this table cover cleaned and there's spotting on the back lining. This piece can only be professionally cleaned by a museum expert and NOT dry-cleaned or washed, either of which would destroy this rare gem.
