A fabulous 18th century Italian vestment stole depicting the lighter and less formal tastes characteristic of the early 18th century. The ground is cream silk, the color used for Easter and Christmas, with silk embroidery of flowers, fruit and foliage with crosses. There is also meandering foliage in silver metal thread backed in a creamy white satin. The overall length of this stole is much longer then what is a normal length and is entirely hand stitched.
Ecclesiastical. A long scarf usually of embroidered silk or linen, worn over the left shoulder by deacons and over both shoulders by priests and bishops while officiating.
