1960's Adolfo Organdy skirt and top, a style for which he was quite famous. I think this is an exceptional buying opportunity! as these outfits are quite rare. Adolfo was known for his theatrical styles during this period, many were conceived to go with the hats for which he was quite famous. Organdy dirndl skirts, patchwork or applique, and he was a big fan of gingham. A definitive whimsical 1960's ensemble. **This look was a big favorite among Society Ladies. Dressing, and later inspiring the likes of Gloria Vanderbilt, Nancy Reagan, Jackie Onasis, the Duchess of Windsor, and many others at his Adolfo Boutique at Saks. He also won the Coty Fashion Award in 1969 (probably about the same date as this outfit) **The maxi skirt is an amazing 3 THREE layers of ivory silk organdy...gathered at the waist...dirndl style. The top layer of organdy has daisy gingham patches or appliques. They are outlined in silver metallic thread and have metallic centers. The bottom of the top skirt layer is a bit shorter than the underskirt and has a scalloped edge with gingham applique and silver metallic thread. **The skirt has a wide bias cut gingham cumberbun with a huge sash to tie in a fetching bow in the back. Even though this is very 1960's, the profile or overall look actually has a decided period quality to it. It has an acetate lining under the 3 layers. This is an amazing volume of fabric and truly creates a luxurious look and feel. **The matching blouse is cut beautifully. It is quite fitted with a gentle scoop neck, self covered buttons, a "Queen Liz I" looking ruffle or "Ruff" around the neck, ruffle at cuffs. The gingham is a poly blend of some sort. C O N D I T I O N: Excellent. Has yellowed with age and storage in some areas which will come out when cleaned. S I Z E: Blouse small to x-small. Bust 34", armhole 14". I think the buttons might have been moved a bit. It is meant to be quite fitted. Shoulders are 14-1/2". Skirt 41" long, waist is a bit more flexible...as found it measures 25+" Due to style you can shift the closure a bit to suit your waist needs. PLEASE NOTE: We do not clean most of our vintage clothing, and recommend that you either wash or have them dry cleaned. Any issues we believe will be problematic we mention. Thanks, Maire et al |
