This is an impressive chest of drawers from the first half of the 19th century, commonly called “Commode Tombeau” by the French, combining mahogany and rosewood veneer for an appealing result. The original red Levanto marble top sits upon the bombe façade boasting a 2-drawer upper frieze upon 2 larger drawers, each separated by inlaid brass groove and mounted with their original and intricately cast bronze handles and escutcheons, all supported by thick legs adorned with acanthus-shaped sabots. This piece would need to be slightly refinished, included in the price. Note some scratches and dents here and there due to the age. Circa date 1820. Dimensions 34 ½”high/ 54”wide/ 27”deep.
