19th Century Nautical Engraving Trafalgar

This is an absolutely outstanding museum quality hand tinted engraving – entitled Victory of Trafalgar in the Rear. Published London 1843 by J. W. Laird 1 Leadenluill Street. In fancy script written under the title is this caption about what this view is, it reads - This view of the total defeat of the combined fleets of France and Spain with the tenders of the British fleet saving their conquered enemies from the flames of their own vessel.  (L. Achille a French 74) is most respectfully inscribed to the Right Hon. ble Lord Collingwood, the several Captains, Officers, Seamen, and Marines of his Division – by their Devoted Servant – Rob Dodd.  This picture also states that it is painted and engraved by R Doddand that this engraving is plate 4.  The overall condition is quite spectacular in this engraving having only 3 little acid burned spots in the paper.  It is housed in a truly wonderful carved wood and gold gilded frame and professionally mated.  The detail as you can only imagine is truly exquisite in this action packed picture. Overall it measures 37 ¾” x 28 5/8” and the sight size is 29” x 19 ½”.
