	Needlework Picture, America, late 18th century (1770-1800), oval portrait with silk and wool threads beautifully embroidered on a linen ground depicting a woman seated beside a lion and a donkey. The linen has a painted background, the woman's head, arms, and foot on painted cut-paper. The frame is gilt over gesso on a painted and carved frame.Dimensions: 12.5 x 10.5 plus frameCondition: Minor thread losses on womans skirt. Some light staining to sky. Frame has an old split as shown in photios. Wear appropriate for the period.
