	Antique Foo Dogs Matching Pair Porcelain, Pottery: Porcelain/Pottery
	19th century Chinese ceramic hand painted Foo Dogs or Fu Dogs and guardians of the temple. A very attractive matching pair of miniature Fu dogs sitting on pedestals and somewhat serene verses the typical fierce ones we often see. Each has five glazed enamels of predominantly emerald green color, canary yellow and raspberry. The male lion has his right paw on a ball. The female is essentially identical, but has a single club or what appears to be an animal under her left paw. Symbolically, the male fu dog guards the structure, while the female protects those dwelling inside and this is sometimes associated with feng shui or Buddhism. One lion is incised to the underside with "China" and the artist initials, chop or seal. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The female is approximately 7" tall by 3" wide (at the widest) and the male is 6 7/8" H by 3" wide.
