Antique French Boulle Rococco Tea Caddy

A particulary fine and rare French Rococco Boulle tea caddy finely accented with elaborate ormolu mounts and twist rope trim. The shell is on all sides and lid. The hinged lid opens to reveal a lacquer interior fitted with two lidded tea boxes or caddys and a bowl well. The lid of each caddy lifts to reveal a silver lining, each beautifully accented with twisted rope ormolu mounts. Particularly striking with a Rococo inspired chased and engraved brass inlay on the top and the front which is further embellished in the typical Boulle style in red tortoise shell with a central cartouche.

The interior front is stamped with makers name Vervelle of Paris. Vervelle (1838-1893) was a famous cabinetmaker of the second empire. Condition: repaired loss on the lid and back of the caddy to be expected of boulle of this age otherwise in excellent condition.
