Antique French Empire Gilt Bronze Frame

An outstanding 19th century French empire period gilt brass frame for a miniature painting. This is actually the first time I have ever seen a frame of this caliber without a miniature portrait on ivory inside of it. But anyways – I am thrilled to death to have this frame. As you can see it has a celadon green silk moire background and applied to that are classical gilt bronze mounts. The frame overall is extremely decorative – the amount of work here is totally incredible and the work is also very fine. The outside of the frame has suffered a little bit of oxidation you can see the contrast between the outer frame and the mounts under glass. The frame is also very architectural which is some what unusual. It has almost a shadow box type of frame – the back of the frame is deeply inset and there is a full glass plate on top of that and that too is quite unusual. It has an easel back with little decorative brass hinges – it is very nice! It dates from the first quarter of the 19th century around 1800-1825. 

Measurements: 5 5/8” at highest x 4 ½” wide. The sight size is 1 7/8” in diameter.
