Antique French Needlework Engagement Ceremony

An exceptional and beautiful fine antique French memorial needlework in original frame. The needlework is impeccably detailed over a watercolor painted silk background. Beautifulmuted shades of peach, flaxen, some celadon green, and tinges of tone down golden colors. The scene appears to be a lovely engagement ceremony and the feeling is spectacular! On the back of the needlework there are a few stamps on the paper backing I think form a gallery exhibition (as far as I can tell) in Paris. The frame is carved wood with gold gilding.

Overall the memorial appears to be in very good condition although as usual with a needlework of this time period it does have a little foxing  a little water mark to the left of the chaperone ladies head at the edge. The fabric near the center woman who is being crowned with olive wreath has deteriorated a little bit (about the size of a tiny little finger nail). What I like about this is that the more I look at it the more stunned I am by such work – even when you look at the figures feet the embroidery makes up the laces on their sandals and their toes are well defined as well as fingers and facial features. Spectacular!

Measurements: The sight size of the memorial is 11 1/8” in diameter and overall in frame it measures 13 3.8” in diameter.  The frame has great depth almost similar but not quite like a shadow box frame which measures 1 ½” deep.
