Rare antique French Redware Pottery Jug Cruche. This extraordinary, very large pot from the Macon region of France is glazed in a deep pumpkin brown with a classic swirl sgraffito design on all sides- a design the settlers would eventually bring with them when they came to America. The sgraffito even runs onto the unglazed portion of this vessel. The inside is ribbed, the spout is narrow and extends outward a little over 2". Glazed 1/3 down the body and no glaze on the bottom. Used as part of the table service, this pottery would keep the wine cool. It is solid, no cracks and the small, weathered chips and uneven glaze add to its terrific charm 14.5" Ht x 12", weighing 13 lb.
