A fine and very large Trumeau mirror, dating from the Louis XV period, 1755 to 1760 and French in Origin. The frame with carved designs in the Rococo taste, and decorated with gilt accents on a matt blue-painted ground. Possibly (Almost Certain) the Original Glass. The mirror's upper section featuring a romantic-themed oil painting, of Venus at her Toilet accompanied by an army of Cherubs. The oil painting exhibiting fine shading and color, with details in the clothing & gestures evidence of careful execution. This surmounting a rectangular mirror plate, both surrounded by raised foliate borders in gilt, upon a rich blue-painted field. This trumeau was likely originally part of a larger custom wall section, and a good example of the merger of architecture & design. In Excellent Condition!
