	A most spectacular late regency (circa 1840) tall case clock. This wonderful clock is a three-train musical playing Whittington Chimes on the quarter hour and the strikes the hour on a separate bell. It has an eight-bell chime. It is in perfect running condition with an eight-day brass facade pendulum. The face is really really nice – all hand painted and a lot of craquelure all over just the same as happens with oil paintings. There are also a few small restoration spots to the face surface and they have been done faithfully. Now for the case – from top to bottom your eye does not know where to land next. The case is of superior delicate nature starting at the bonnet which is extremely shapely. You can see that it has nice fret work on the central bonnet with an eagle finial sitting on top of that. Now in the center of the bonnet crest you can see a carved wood gold gilded Prince of Whales feather. Brass finials on each side of columns that are inlaid in a simple string diamond pattern. The molding of the door is superbly architectural in nature having three different sections of molding. The columns are very deeply reeded and fine topped with gilt bronze or brass ionic capitals. The door has a whale ivory knob which is just delicate and exquisite. Travel on down the clock and here you see the most richest mahogany – again very highly figured. It has simple double line inlays in the oval of the tombstone door with a whale ivory key escutcheon. The columns along side of the doors are again the simple line inlaid diamond pattern. Traveling down to the base of the clock – a very delicate base indeed yet strong and powerful with more bold double line inlaid. You see the splayed feet and the skirt all totally perfect! This magnificent masterpiece is late regency period. One thing I forgot to mentioned is that on the false plate on the back of the clock it is signed William Whittaker Halifax. I know the Whittaker’s were makers of iron false plates. I’m not quite sure if they are the makers or some of the family members. I understand that at some point they went into clock making but I’m just not sure. However the things That I am sure of are the things that I stated above. A totally rich wonderful exquisite clock of the highest caliber, beautiful sounding chimes, excellent workmanship in the works. My Scottish master clock maker has inspected the clock thoroughly. He has it all set up here, he did the cleaning and he has it all up and running. He has a big smile on his face – he loves this clock and says it’s exquisite and breathtaking feeling the same way I do about it. If you are looking for something spectacular, a clock of the highest caliber look no further this is magnificent beauty! It measures approx 99” at highest (to the top of the eagle finial) x 21 1/8” at widest x 10” at deepest.
