A Fine Charles X period French Mantel clock, encased in an elaborate dore bronze figural case. The overall composition is of French Empire and depicts a statue of a young classical maiden on horseback looking upward to a parrot sitting on her left hand. Exquisite detail, designs and chiseling glimmering on her dress and reins Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Produced by the Lost wax method of bronze casting with meticulous hand chasing and chiseling of the surface very hard to catch with photography. Gilding is all original, intact and in mint condition. The case is adorned with scrolled leafs and flowers. This clock is one of very high quality bronze work, VERY fine chiseling and superb original gilding. The 8 day bell strike movement works with a silk thread suspension with fine adjustment on the backside. Age: 1840-1860. Maker's mark "L R" and a G. The numbers 214 corresponding to that on the movement. Produced by the Lost wax method of bronze casting with meticulous hand chasing and chiseling of the surface.
