Architectural and ornate antique brass inkwell. Very much reflecting the architecture of an early Renaissance Castle. We estimate the date to the late 19th century. The architectural style is evocative of the Renaissance Revival or even Heraldic style that was so popular during the Victorian period. It features both the Heraldic Quatrefoil and Fleur-de-Lys. **The Quatrefoil...in many variations ornaments the base and background. There are 2 rails, and 2...for lack of better words...Battlement style rails. These look like the details seen in early Renaissance castles, with the Quatrefoil cut-outs. You can see the graceful Fleur-de-Lys accenting the inkwell, and the border. We could find no signature or foundry mark. C O N D I T I O N: Lovely vintage condition. One of the side rails is a bit more towards the center than the other when viewed overhead. This may not even be a condition issue, and does not really detract from the beauty of the piece. I am not sure if this had a glass liner, we are selling it without. S I Z E: approx 7-1/4" square INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING USPS Priority with Insurance. May upgrade to Express if you wish. |
