A mid 19 century Russian Icon on wooden board depicting the feast of the celebrating of Christ's ascent as described in the Gospel of Saint Luke. The theme shows the Jesus our Lord in a glory of golden light with angels. Below, on earth, two angles at his feet and his apostles on each side, Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ and John the Baptist. Old Russian text naming each in the painting. Utilizing a single back slat for purposes of stability during the drying process and to ensure structural integrity over time. Measurements 12 1/2" by 10 1/2". Condition excellent, The colors are well preserved and are a tribute to this icon.
