Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Sewing Chatelaine

Antiques: Chatelaines

Crafted of sterling silver this antique sewing chatelaine has three dangles; a scissors with scabbard, a thimble bucket and a needle case. The decorating appointments are typical for a sewing chatelaine and include items that someone who embroidered would need close at hand. The top portion of the piece has four connected pieces each depicting a human figure in ornate repousse and measures 4” in height by 1 1/2" in width. Each section is connected by engraved links. The back is hallmarked. The scissors and scabbard each feature detailed workmanship including floral repousse patterns. Together the scissors and scabbard measure 4” in height and 1 7/8” in width. The thimble bucket highlights a lovely floral design on the sides and bottom of the piece. It is lined in red velvet and contains a beautiful, engraved thimble. The bucket measures 1” deep and 7/8” in diameter. The needle case has the same repousse design as the scissor scabbard and measures 3” in height by 1/2" in width. The two pieces of the case are attached by a safety chain. The needle case is hallmarked. Circa: 1880.
