Art Nouveau Bronze Vase By Antonio Bofill
Antiques: Bronze Sculpture: Bronze Vase By Bofill |
| An Early casting of a Beautiful Bronze Vase, Circa 1915 to 1920, by the Spanish Bronze Artist, Antonio Bofill (1895 to 1925) Though some of the artist's pieces are still being cast today, this casting dates from 1920, toward the end of his short, but productive life. The vase is believed to depict Daphnis and Chloe, after the Ballet by Maurice Ravel. Ravel began work on the score in 1909 after a commission from Sergei Diaghilevy. It was premiered at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris by his Ballets Russes on June 8, 1912. The orchestra was conducted by Pierre Monteux, the choreography was by Michel Fokine, and Vaslav Nijinsky danced the part of Daphnis. Leon Bakst designed the original sets. This Beautiful Ballet influenced many artist of the time, painters, sculptors, even cabinet makers. This Fine example depicts a beautiful woman being pursued by a man, among the swirling body of the vase, reminiscent of the emotional swirls of the Music. In Excellent Condition, with a wonderful, clear signature. Retails in any fine shop for $14,500 Malleries Price is $11,000 FIRM Shipping determined by Distance. |
