What a treasure! We are thrilled to offer this delicate early to mid19th century muslin shawl. This is an exceptionally beautiful hand made piece. It features Ayrshire embroidery and delicate bobbin lace. **The body is very fine ivory tone cotton muslin. The Ayrshire embroidery is gorgeous (very little was made after the mid 19th century). Heavily padded satin stitch, needlelace fillings are used to create the delicate floral motif. The long edge along the top of the shawl is finished with embroidery too. Meticulous drawn work was used to define the edge where the lace joins the body of the shawl...it forms the tiny grid pattern you see. C O N D I T I O N: As a rule we do not like to sell items with issues unless we believe they are worth it. This shawl presents beautifully and is still useable. It would be great for display or study. It has numerous repairs (see photo), and could use some further repair work. It is being sold as found. |
