Box Travel Desk Early 1800s

A great very early 1800’s travel desk. I believe the wood is Zelkova or Camphor. The box has great dimension as you can see , carved in a simple manor yet very high end .The wood grain is quite exceptional ,having a dark purple to black highly figural grain. The exterior of the box has a great rich surface patina.The interior is fitted with a lift out tray & with writing surface. The handles are a very fine casted bronze bale with snipe hinges. The original bronze escheuton is in the box & the one that is on it now is a Victorian iron escheuton & it appears that that must have been put on there much later in the middle to late 1800’s.It has the original brass lock , but no key but then again you never find the keys with these kind of boxes. The interior center hinge is missing but the lid is sound & working perfectly with out It.

Measuring 18 ½” Long x 11” wide x 7” high.
