Beautiful c1900 French Ivory 24 piece Flatware set. 12 knives and 12 forks. Landers, Frary & Clark . Probably intended as a dessert service. French Ivory was the name given to this type of early celluloid as it was meant to imitate ivory. These sets are very collectible, hard to find and are a much coveted addition to a Host or Hostess elegant repertoire. **The handles are ornately carved French Ivory (celluloid) and feature beautiful repousse' sterling silver collars. The blades of the knives are silverplate and are marked with the Universal L.F. & C mark (Landers, Frary & Clark signature). Each of the collars bear the Sterling hallmark and the tines on forks also appear to be sterling. The knives come with their orignal silver storage wrap. **French Ivory is an imitation of ivory tusk in grained celluloid or plastic. "French Ivory" is a registered trademark. C O N D I T I O N: Overall very good to excellent condition. There is some wear on the knife blade silverplate. We picture this. It is a bit more exaggerated looking in the photo.
