Carved Eagles Gold Gilt Pair American Federal

Pair of 18th century American Federal flag pole eagles. Exceptional, crisp carving with gesso and gold gilt in a great state of preservation, with the exception of one of the eagle heads. On close examination, I find that the head at one time had been repaired in the neck area. It is a very old repair and you have to inspect it close to find it. Otherwise, just the way we like to find them. They are sturdy with secure joints. Some worm holes, but retaining most of the original gold gilt. American Federal Period and quite possibly of Philadelphia origin. They are absolutely awesome, having exceptional detail, form and richness of surface. Date aprox 1790-1805. 11" long x 5 3/4" wide, very light.
