	French Baroque 18th early century sculpture of the Infant Jesus, carved of a beautifully patinated fine fruitwood., possibly walnut This wonderful Christ child is innocent, and naieve, carved fron a single piece of wood. The sculpture was purchased in France by an advancd collector of exceptional religious antiques located in Ireland, and has just arrived in the USA. I know of nothing similar offered anywhere, and I do my research. The sculpture may at one time have had a wire mount around the sides to secure in a manger, as there is a continuious groove encirciling the figure. It was commmon practice to steal Baby Jesus figures from Catholic churches to "borrow" until a "miracle" occured, at which time the bebe was returned.* The sculpture will display beautifully with in iron museum mount.*Please reference Bambino di Roma.
