CLIGNANCOURT, soft paste porcelain signed with earliest of marks (Windmill) from 1771-1774, made by Pierre Deruellc. Clignancourt was to become fanciere of the brother to King Louis XIV, Comte de Provence in 1775. The soft paste porcelains are said to have rivaled and surpassed the kings SEVRES Manufactory.
Very few documented pieces are known to have survived the French Revolution which bear the early Windmill hallmark. This pair of plates are unparallelled in hand painted detail, the use of border decor with raised gilt and superb figural artistry.
True museum quality.
