DESCRIPTION: 1940's Glamour at its best. Fredley's boutique label. (upscale store in Boston area). This gown was owned by a Boston Socialite. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE AMAZING BELT BUCKLE! The fabric is drapey luxurious satin...the top is eggplant purple, the bottom of the gown a fushia. The fabric is a probably a silk and rayon blend, rayon alone...soft shimmery and drapey. (please note, the COLORS look more intense in the photos than it really is) The dress zips up the front....quite a plunging neck line. The shoulders are padded, and the sleeves are long and fitted. They have zippers at the wrists. The front draping panel hooks in the front of the dress. It is split in the center. The dress is finished with a huge set jeweled belt...gorgeous amethyst rhinestones. It features 3 labels. Fredley's store label, James Rothenberg Original (I could not find any information on this label), New York Fashion Institute....(In November 1940, the International Ladies Garment Workers Union announced that it would ask manufacturers to join in promotional efforts to advertise New York as a style center and introduce production methods designed to stop the exodus of manufacturing from New York.). CONDITION: Very Good. It Presents beautifully....and is completely photogenic. I did not photo shop this at all...just basic croping and editing. It has issues....most of which are more subtle, but need to be explained. And, in truth, if this were worn at night...which is when it would be worn...it would look as great as the photos. There is slight fading to the purple in a some of the areas, I tried to show this in the photo....but due to the reflective surface it is hard to show. The fushia satin has some stains and bruising on the back side (probably from sitting on furniture that hurt the satin surface. Again, not very obvious. There are underarm stains (see photo). Again, this is not noticeable as it is buried under the arm, and lost in folds. One side is almost insignificant. A slight mendable tear on front panel...on inside, so it does not show. Many need other fine tuning. SIZE: Bodice Length: 16", Skirt Length: 45".
