English Miniature Portrait Ivory Thomas Peat, 1790

Approx. 1 3/4 by 2 inches and framed in a Georgian gold, low carat, rimmed frame, which is glazed with feather edging and bright cut engraving to the border. Back of the frame is brass with a brooch pin though no hanging loop. Remnants of a signature to the far left at 9 o'clock.

Woman with high wig and lace cap on top. Beautifully and realistically painted face. lavender gown with white fichu and black trim. A black ribbon around her neck.

Thomas Peat worked in London and the surrounding area from 1791 to 1831. He exhibited at the R.A. 1791-1805. Painted in watercolors and enamels. Examples of his work are in the London museum and the V.&A. Museum.

Based on research and auction records this is certainly in his style. His miniatures have sold for more than $6000. in recent years.

Due to construction I have not examined it outside of the frame.
