An 18th century English petite point /gros point pillow worked in colored silks and wools. Once a chair seat cover, this piece depicts one of the four seasons - "Summer" - with sickle and wheat. Edged in a rare 4” antique silver metallic eyelash fringe and overlaid with an antique multi colored silk fringe that has been wrapped in metal thread. Backed with red silk velvet.
Gros Point: A needlework stitch covering two horizontal and two vertical threads. This stitch was introduced by the French to the English and used from the 16th thru 19th centuries and is once again in vogue.
Condition: One small area at the top right corner where there’s a small hole as shown. This is where the needlepoint was cut to fit a chair seat.
Measurements: 20 1/2 x 23 1/2
