Fine C Muller Oil Painting The Chemist Signed

A fine C. Muller (European, 19th Century) oil painting on canvas - The Chemist. The scene shows a scientist in his chemical laboratory. He is seen seated at a table inspecting a glass vial that he is holding in his hand. Intricate interior scene has chemist equipment, cabinets, a large open fireplace (which cast a soft glowing light throughout the painting). The detail is exceptional and the colors are vivid yet naturalistic! It is signed “C. Muller” which is under frame edge. It is housed in its original frame with some gilt loss, but in good condition. I have tried researching the artist C Muller but there are quite a few – I feel though that he may be the French artist Charles Muller (1815-1892) but as I mentioned it is hard to know for sure.

I was very excited about acquiring this painting from the Woolworth Family estate. Here is a little history of the Woolworth Family: During the late 19th and early 20th Century the Woolworth Department Stores were one of the most famous names in department stores both here and in Europe. Everyone growing up remembers the Woolworth Five & Dime store in their town. In the early 20th century, one branch of the Woolworth family came to Maine and acquired hundreds of acres of land on beautiful Cobbossee Lake in Monmouth, Maine. Over the years, the compound has grown to approximately twenty-six buildings, some of which were filled with antiques collected all over the world and with a discerning eye.
