William Barraud

(English, 1810 -1850)

William Barraud, a pupil of Abraham Cooper, shared a studio with his younger brother Henry, with whom he collaborated, exhibiting sporting scenes and portraits both singly and jointly. At the Royal Academy where he first showed when he was eighteen, he exhibited forty-four of his own paintings and fifteen in collaboration with Henry.William was considered the more talented of the brothers, but his career was cut short by his untimely death. Among his engravings published in the Old Sporting Magazine were a portrait of the racehorse "British Volunteer" and four prints of greyhounds.

The frame & framing is museum quality .The carved wood simple frame is a combination of gold & silver leaf, so conservative & so perfect .On the back of this picture is a label that reads “Original Old Print circa 1850 Registered No 201& the title & artist info, Styled for The Monsanto Chemical Co” The Hounds are framed in a great matt, sight size of picture23 ¼” x 22”.Overall in the frame 32 ½” x 32 ½”.Overall the picture is in superb condition .This is one very special print, so elegant , such superior art work, how fantastic would this look over the fireplace mantle in the great room ,or would be so completely handsome in the Library or Study or any other million dollar setting
