| Rare 1880 French Miniature Dore Bronze Vanity Vitrine with 2 artist signed Miniature portraits on ivory. A lavender enamel inserts, double beveled mirror and all original silk lining in drawers and boxes. Approx. 9 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches long. In a Louis XVI style with cast ormolu. Sets upon 4 legs. Mirror is beveled on one side and a miniature portrait on ivory of a beautiful 18th C looking woman on the other. Signature to the far side that I cannot make out. Miniature portrait approx. 2 by 3 inches. Mirror is set in an ormolu mounted torch and ribbon garland cartouche with side torches. Crisp and beautifully cast. Vanity table has a center framed Miniature portrait on ivory of another beautiful 18th C woman. Signed on the side though I cannot decipher it. Portrait is approx. 1 1/2 by 2 inches. Underneath center drawer pulls out and is lined in original watermarked silk. The sides are 2 boxes which open to reveal original silk. They are covered in the most amazing lavender enamel covered with glass and then with cast ormolu design. The apron of the vanity is cast ormolu ribbon and floral garlands all across the front of the piece. Bottom is marked France. Condition is extraordinary for age. Most probably used as a jewel box imitating the vanity is sat upon. So rare I have never seen such a piece before. |
