French Or Italian 17th Century Metal Thread Oak Leaf Applique Pillow

An early 17th century French or Italian heavy metal thread applique depicting an oak leaf and acorns hand couched on an antique silk/cotton Italian red velvet. Bordered with a gold French metallic trim with a floral design and antique gold metallic eyelash fringe. The oak is a common symbol for strength and endurance.

Condition: Wear/rub to the metal threads allowing the yellow silk ground threads to show which is consistent with age, otherwise in wonderful condition for age.   

“Couching” simply means to stitch an item down with small stitches at regular intervals.
