A rare circa 1715 “bizarre” green silk brocade with silver metallic fans, undulating ribbons and foliage on a surface patchwork patterned ground that shows a clear taste for chinoiserie style. Edged with a ruche antique silver double-sided torchon lace that gives a fan effect, finished with a 19th century silver metallic eyelash fringe all on Scalamandre forest green silk velvet. Made in Lyon, France or Venice, Italy for dress wear.
“Bizarre” patterns date between 1680 – 1720 before falling out altogether, this pattern is more understated then the more turbulent extravagant patterns found during the earlier part of bizarre period.
Condition: Minor rub to the silver metal otherwise in wonderful condition. Insert is European down. (2 available)
Measurements: 16 1/2 x 26
