French Shagreen Necessaire Etui Ivory & Silver

A superb and rare case.  And is complete. French Souvenir D' Amitie....a souvenir for a friend. Green shagreen is decorated with silver mounts and silver trim. A miniature portrait on ivory is on the front and the back of the case. The front depicts 3 Provincial  looking people at a Hunting party. Especially nice is the woman holding a baby. The back is a lovely rendering of a tower in a 1800's fortified village. Nice landscape perspective of the house with a small waterfall in the front.

The interior is outfitted in red velvet and has compartments for 8 accessories. They include : an ivory writing tablet, with pencil  small scissors, threader, thread puller, tongue scraper, small blade with tortoise shell handle and a small pair of tongs. All silver is marked and the tiny marks are very difficult to see. I do see the lozenge makers mark.

Shagreen is perfect as well as the miniatures on ivory. Rare and quite wonderful.
