An exceptional 18kt gold Georgian memorial/mourning ring embellished with shells and scallops on black enamel. The scallops mean resurrection, life everlasting and connote one's life journey, while the shells represent a reminder that the individual is not forgotten. The center holds braided dark hair under rock crystal surrounded with the shells and scallops in gold on a black enamel ground. The shank is much lighter in appearance and weight with scroll work, flowers and a shell with touches of black enamel. The underside is inscribed with: Susan Baker, died 31st Dec, 1842 aged 37. This ring is fully hallmarked with visible markings along the inside of the band and is hallmarked 1823, the year the ring itself was made, along with the gold weight and it being from England. In amazing mint condition and makes a perfect pinky ring, this ring cannot be resized.
