18th C Georgian Allegorical oval double painting of Sepia with Macerated hair art of a winged cherub beside an anchor and a 2 doves under a ringed wreath housed in an 18 kt gold glazed frame. By J. Ramage.

Approx. 3/4 by 1 1/2 inches,

Fabulous piece....A love and Matrimonial Allegorical Sepia brooch...more unusual than the Mourning pieces.

In a fold frame brooch with swivel so that either side may be worn.

1st side is Curly headed winged cherub with bow and arrow in hand standing beside an anchor. Ground and macerated hair to the tree and landscape. The meaning is love and fidelity (the anchor) hope and steadfastness.

The other side is a pair of winged doves underneath a ringed wreath with the center initials MC and a garland decoration..A Matrimonial Allegory.

Information gives the artist as John Ramage..one of the best Minature artists of this kind working in New York in the 1770 to 1790's. He never signed his paintings ...He is a listed artist and his works regularly sell in the thousands.

Rare and fabulous work...purchased from a significant East Coast collection of Miniatures.

Overall in good condition with just a small hair out of place to the left of the birds
