Very rare Vintage playing card set made for Hermes of Paris c.1940s, featuring brilliant designs and the superb printing by Draeger Frères of Paris. This 55-card deck, each with 2 jokers and an advertising card have gold gilt and measure 2"1/4 x 3.5". Housed in its original box, with the distinctive orange Hermes box. Possibly ex-collection of the estate of Mary Flagler Cary. The stamp on the bottom was used from 1929 to 1940. The text is 'Playing cards ', '10 cents', and 'U.S.INT.REV (internal revenue) notice how the stamp was never canceled. The box itself written with "Hermes 24, Faubourg Saint- Honore, Paris". This is a collector's item as well as a fully functional card set for the person who appreciates the finer things in life, filled with history and artistic value. Condition: The set comes in the original Hermes box, with seal and lift-out-tray and although some normal wear to the box, the actual card set remains clean and intact. |
