An early 18th century Italian alter/vestment runner of a light coral/pink silk. Woven with appliques in silver and bronze metal threads with symbols depicting: Thistle - Christ's crown of thorns Rose - the nativity of God Daisy - symbol for the baby Jesus Sun - symbol for Christ Cross - telling the purpose for which Christ was born Edged with a silver metal galon with a geometric wavy pattern, finished with a 19th silver metal fringe trim. Backed in coordinating cotton sateen lining. This runner was likely cut down in size as both end appliques and the two middle appliques have modern overcast stitching around them as shown. Condition: One small spot by a middle applique, otherwise in amazing condition. |
