All hand stitched, hand embroidered & applique-Rare Italian Renaissance gilt thread and velvet banner 17th-18th century, with Heraldic borders. An open field with traces of antique velvet and elaborate gold embroidery of bell flowers and foliage. Framed by two long panels of trophies holding heraldic shields bordered with gold tassels and fringes. Ending atop with another panel of scrolls, shields and with loops for hanging. Large round heavy gold thread tassels and fringes adorn the borders to each side. The banner has a newer gold cotton backing. Perfect to use as a window panel, wall hanging and more commonly used today as an impressive table top. A generous size measuring 61 1/2" across x 42 " H and an additional 4 1/2" for the fringes. There are loose threads to the fringes which can be cut but we have not touched them, a stain on the back cover, some very small residue of glue was noted on the back of one loop, some discoloration to a small area on the panel as seen in our pictures and a tear to the backing; all which do not affect the beauty at all, this is quite old and we consider this in remarkable condition for age. The gold fringes have darkened with age. Entirely hand made and absolutely opulent and rare, one of the most complete and beautiful ones we've seen, a very heavy and strong piece as well. The overall color is an elegant salmon with a light khaki green, gold and yellow with highlights of dark red. |
