An incredibly beautiful piece from an Estate Collection of fine Ivory Cameos. The Cameos were collected throughout most of the 19th century and passed down through several generations. We were pleased to acquire a large part of the Collection from the great granddaughter (sharing the selection with a major Canadian Museum). This piece depicts the Goddess Flora. She is masterfully carved in fine sculptural form and well undercut to expose more than 2/3 of her head. A textured background creates a wonderful juxtaposition against her soft, sensuous form. She is serene and beautifully detailed. As fine an example as I've seen. The cameo is finished in an edge of raised braiding to create a self frame, so pure we've decided not to disturb the look with a gold frame. This piece came straight out of a cabinet has not seen much light of day in its' 175 + years. It has never had a broaching mechanism or bale attached. We will have our jeweler add an 18K cross bar to the back of the piece to support a bale and/or broaching suite in accordance to our client's request. (There will be no charge for this service as the piece cannot be worn without Findings.) CONDITION: In Mint Antique Condition with no damage to note. No discoloration to the front. The back shows minute historic yellowing as can be seen in the photographs. * Flora will be treated to a bath after the Jeweler has completed his work, and just before shipping. A museum quality cameo. Hand carved and originally acquired in Dieppe, France - second quarter, nineteenth century. An independent Gemological Appraisal will be provided for this piece. * A Cites Permit is required to ship Ivory across any international border.
