Don't miss this large and unusual piece Subject: JOSEPH AND JESUS Joseph, also known as Saint Joseph, Joseph the Betrothed, Joseph of Nazareth, and Joseph the Worker, is known from the New Testament as the husband of Mary, mother of Jesus, and although according to Christian tradition he was not the biological father of Jesus, he acted as his foster-father and head of the Holy Family. Joseph was visited by angels and is noted for his willingness to immediately do what God told him to do. Joseph was a carpenter and many Christian teachings emphasize his patience, persistence, and hard work as admirable qualities to be imitated. Catholics believe he prays especially for families, fathers, expectant mothers, travelers, immigrants, house sellers and buyers, craftsmen, engineers, and working people in general. Joseph is often depicted holding the Christ child and a lily, which represents chastity and purity. According to Christian folklore, burying a statue of Saint Joseph on a piece of real estate for sale is reputed to enlist the saint's assistance in finding a buyer.
