A fine mid 19th century Louis XVI restored tapestry settee from a matching carved salon suite consisting of a pair of fauteuils, settee and kneeler. Fine floral and acanthus leaf scroll carvings with classic fluted legs and carved pearled and leaf decorative banding. Seat covered in in cream linen to replace tapestry seat. Conserved original horsehair upholstery saving the original tapestry back and arms. Tapestry seat retained for restoration if you choose. Original gilt finish retained, with some losses as to be expected. Entire frame professionally restored and structure strengthened.
Provenance: French origin, likely obtained during the Grand Tour. Property of an old downtown New York family, the original owners until acquired by Clary & Co. Antiques.
